Again I have to apologize for not keeping our blog up to date, I find it harder and harder to keep everything going all at one time, but wanted to share with you some of the new things coming in and what is going on this month. August is the last month of our Celebrate Summer series that we have been doing every summer for the last ten years. It is always so much fun, grab bags in June, celebrate Made In America in July and August is always something different but special just the same. This year for our last time to Celebrate Summer during August we are doing Double Punches for our key tag club. This is one of the most fun things we have ever introduced in the shop....giving punches for each $10 spent to earn a $25.00 gift card when the key tag is full, it is so popular and we love it because it rewards our true customers no matter how much or how little they spend...and to get double punches is really a treat...and we will be doing it all month long for the very last time so come on by and get your punches..don't have a key tag?? that's okay just ask for one and we will gladly sign you up and start you off with a free $20 punch now what could be better than that??? While we are at it..be sure and save the date...our LAST FALL OPEN HOUSE will be Sunday September 4th and we have some amazing things coming in...it may be the LAST but it will also be the BEST!!! I can't believe it is July already!! Where has this year gone?? We are excited to begin our celebrating American made products this month. We traditionally set the month of July aside to showcase the products we carry that are made by some amazing craftsman. We hope that you will come help us show our appreciation of their work and support them too, let's keep them working and crafting!! Since this is the LAST time we will be having this event we are also celebrating our 30 years of retail and your support of our home grown business all these years...so look for the flag sticker on our American made products and you will save 30% off this month only!! Has it really been since April since I updated the blog?? Oh my I am sorry for that and if anyone is still following along, thank you!! I can't promise to do better but I will try to keep this updated. Lots has happened since April and between emails, the shop and Facebook my computer time has become very limited. So here goes. For those of you that had not heard we lost the Borders next door as our anchor to the center. I would have never believed that it would affect our walk through traffic as much as it did, but THANK GOODNESS for all our our loyal customers that have remembered to check in and come by or we would have been in BIG trouble for sure!

We have made some decisions this last month as our lease comes up for renewal and have decided that we would not be renewing it...hubby is scheduled to retire in January...grand kids are getting older...and honestly 30 years in retail is enough for me....even though it has never been a job but a JOY I don't see my "golden years" doing what it takes to make a small business work. I will so miss all of the people and planning and sharing that we have done with so many over the years but probably won't miss the unpacking, climbing and just the shear "thinking and planning" that it takes.... my body and brain will thank me I am sure!!

But as in all things we are going to go out "right" we wanted to let our customers know well in advance so that you can "plan for it" knowing this is the last fall and Christmas season we will share, so that you like me, can replace, fluff and update anything that needs to be done in the mean time. I have had so many wonderful emails, visits and comments about our decision but also gratitude for doing it this way and not just "disappearing" by the time we do pack it all up you will probably be saying and thinking ....ENOUGH ALREADY!! So watch for those emails and as before the best way to keep up is through becoming a fan on our facebook page (see link on the side) we will be having lots of special things going on just for our customers before we announce and advertise the closing to the public so don't miss out on a thing!!

Summer is upon us and ready or not it will include lots of hot dry days, hopefully some visits to the pools to cool off, picnics and ballgames too. We are all decked out and would love for you to make a visit to see us on your agenda too. I love putting out my red white and blue, flags, watermelons ants and pretty tablecloths help to brighten up the porch like nothing else. On my table inside I use a favorite crock add geraniums some battery tapers in candlesticks and a cute little crow I found several years ago that is holding lots of flags..I love him!! I added a new table cloth and some of our weepy greenery to the goat cart on the front porch and it is perfect with the other things I had...we would love to help you "update" or add to your summer collections so that the long hot summer can put a smile on your face and greet you each and every day...Happy Summer!!

Wow what a week of weather we have had, like most of you around the country, but in Texas it is rare that we are this cold, for this long and then have snow too! I have loved seeing all the pictures of the kids building snowmen (that came up at least to their knees LOL!!) We have been getting lots of new things in at the shop getting ready for spring (?) and Easter that I will be sharing more of later. Today the country is stopped in front of the TV for the "big" game or at least around the buffet table eating all the good snacks that have gathered. I made a new recipe that can be used as a dip or a side (we are having brisket!!) and I wanted to share it, so easy to do, colorful and very tasty!! Happy weekend everyone and if you are not rooting for one or the other at least enjoy all the good food!

Black Eyed pea dip (courtesy Paula Deen)

2 cans black-eyed peas (drained)
1 can whole kernel corn (drained)
1 can rotel tomatoes (drained)
1 cup chopped red and green bell pepper
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 small jar pimentos chopped and drained
Mix all the above together and then make your dressing

1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 T balsamic vinegar
1 T salt
1/2 t pepper
1 T Dijon mustard
1/4 t sugar
pinch of dried oregano
1/2 cup each olive oil and vegetable oil

Mix well ( I used a whisk) pour over pea mixture and refrigerate until ready to serve. It can be a dip for corn chips or a side, either way it is yummy and looks good on the table!!

I can't believe it has been so long since I posted on our blog, for all of you that are still with me I am so sorry! As with everyone things have been so busy. Since I lasted posted we wrapped up another year (thanks for your support!!) we have inventoried, cleaned and redone the shop, gone to market and ordered for the first part of the new year and already have things coming in. January is always a tough month and this one has been no exception, it is always a let down to go from the hustle and bustle of seeing lots of people, wrapping, restocking and fluffing back to normal traffic flow. Folks are staying close to home and resting up for warmer brighter days and while you are doing that we are getting ready for spring. If you have not seen the new slide show check it out from the link on our website and let us know what you think. Here is a sneak peek at what the shop looks like after the Christmas is down, we have lots of new coming in daily so I hope you can stop by often. Where has this month gone?? A customer came in today and asked that I include the 12 days of Christmas ads on our blog, I had not even given that a thought!! Where is my mind?? So we will start with the 7th day special and continue through the week. These are going out daily in emails and on our face book page but this may be easier for some so they will continue here too. Oh my it has been a while since I posted on our blog, please forgive me but what a quick summer we have had, here is it almost August! First of all thanks to all of our great customers that shopped the month of July and bought our made in America products! It is so important that we support and keep our crafters working and you helped us do that! You are the best.

Coming up for August will be our second GIRLS NIGHT OUT celebration, next Thursday August 5th from 7-9. It has been a while since I shared a recipe mainly because I am not a cook, but this one was too easy and too fast not to share!

All you need is chicken ( I used 4 thighs)
Good Seasons Garlic Cheese Dressing Mix (no other flavor is as good)
1 stick of salted Butter
Lg can of green beans and potatoes
Melt the butter and add the dressing mix, pour over chicken in a crock pot and cook on low all day, during the last hour add the green beans and potatoes and wala dinner!!

And if I haven't shared this information with you, I love love love my small crock pot!! It is perfect for two people and holds a lot more than you would imagine, yep this $10 was well spent!

Our twig lights are back in!! We will be closed for Easter Sunday to enjoy the day with our family, our plans are simple but fun, we will go to early church which will be amazing (we would love for you to join us if you don't have a church home) then home for lunch and Easter egg hunting. Carson is one and Peyton 2 1/2 so it should be fun seeing their first try at finding the eggs at Nini and GranDads.

We love our thin twig trees, they are slim so that they can tuck into a corner but hold so many ornaments, even the heavier ones because the branches are good and sturdy, we have six foot, four and half foot, and three foot ones left but not many of either so don't wait too long...and while you are at it be sure and grab your box of rice lights we just got in our third order and they won't last long!!

My pick for this season are these wonderful electric candles...they are all strung together with one wire so you only have one plug to worry about and they have the most magnificent glow about them, they will be on my mantle at home for sure this year. Here we have it nestled in a garland that actually smells!! The studded oranges are full of the fragrance of cloves!! It was a nice surprise for us too!! wish I could say we planned it that way HA!! someone was definitely watching out for us! We don't have a lot of these lights left so don't wait too long it is something you could use in lots of different ways through out your home.

What a great open house we had!! Thank you to all of you that could come out yesterday and make it so much fun!! We had some wonderful comments and lots of full bags going out the door. We spent this morning restocking and fluffing up for a photo shoot tomorrow we are scheduled for, I will try to post pictures of that so that you can be a part...most of our Christmas is in now and we have started getting our gift items in, I don't think you will be disappointed we found some really cute and unusual things this year at a great price point!! Wow what a month we have had..THANK YOU!! we are seeing our fall things moving out the front door while our Christmas things are coming in the back!! We are so excited about what we will have to show you at our Christmas open House..so Save the Date NOV 1ST from 1:00 ~ 5:00, every time we open a box Barbara says it is the cutest things we have ever had ( I think we say that every year but we do have some really neat stuff!!) We will close Saturday October 31st to decorate..first time to do this... but I am getting to old to do it after we close like before and besides we have little ones now that want to go trick or treating and we don't want to miss that!! I finally got my fall decorating done at home today
I am about a week later than I like but it is done
and what a difference it makes in the feel of the house...and it only took about an hour from start
to finish....the secret?? lots of great garlands that fluff and fill the arrangement with color and texture, then add some of your favorite things and wala you are done!! I hope you try to find an hour to decorate this season, it is so much fun and the colors are amazing!! Happy Fall All!!

What a wonderful turn out we had for our Birthday Bash!! Thank you so much!! Our message boards are back in and just in time for the business of school and all the activities that go along with it. We are celebrating our birthday this month!! Can you believe we have been in south Austin 27 years!! Where has the time gone?? We have seen so many changes in not only our neighborhood but our customers....we are now helping the children that used to sit at our coloring table and admiring their families!! talk about feeling old!!

Oh my heavens where has this month gone?? I have been slacking in posting this month and I am so sorry but things are bustling and there just seems not to be enough hours in the day to catch up!! Our MADE IN AMERICA month has been wonderful, thank you for caring about our crafters as much as we do!! We finally have received the reorder of our new braided rugs and place mats....great colors and a very reasonable price....these are wonderful for the entry way or under a small table and the placemats can be used for lamp pads as well. They didn't last long before so don't wait too long to make a selection.

I am a nester, I admit it and I will say that I love it!! I love to display my treasures in lots of different ways and in all of my rooms....some things that I love I have had for years like these pictures on the wall, others I have collected like the two hand painted boxes and some I add like the floral arrangement to the left...it was on my dining room table last month but I love it here, this is one of the first pieces you see when you come in my front door and it just makes me smile! And the things that I put on my TV cabinet shelves this month are some of my favorites!! Another hand painted box and my set of black and white dogs....aren't they cute!! Yes I am a nester and proud of it!!

I am a Collector, okay that probably doesn't surprise anyone...someone that owns a shop has to be a collector but I collect some really cool stuff...like my Granny's dishes and the yellow ware that is hand done by a variety of artists (getting harder and harder to find too) my yellow ware is in one of my kitchen cabinets, who says you have to put dishes in there?? So yes I am a collector too...

Now that you know I am a Nester and Collector does it surprise you that I am also a Saver!!
This corner is made up of all of my child hood memories and those
of my children. The old radio was my grandmothers, oh I remember listening to "As the World Turns" on this radio before we had TV (yes I am really that old so no comments please!!)
The sampler hung in my room as a child and in my kids rooms as they grew up, it is Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and we read it every night for our night time prayer, it seems like only the other day!! The toy trucks were toys of old and the little lamp is one I found that is a replica of an old gas pump..perfect for my little corner. The old china head doll was made for me by my grandmother...she loved crafts and I am so thankful she passed that love on to me. For those of you who know I change things around all the time you will be surprised to know this corner has not changed in the last five years!! I love it!!
There is one more corner in the house that stays the same....this one by the back door... it has a rocker that was my great grandfathers, an old coverlet that I found years ago my Dad's hat hangs on an old ladder that he always wore when he was "dressed up" So now you know I am a Nester, Collector and Saver and I have fun doing all three...my mantra has always been there is always room for one more thing and when I find something I love I have to have it and worry about finding a place when I get it home...to me that is the fun of having a place we call home!!

MIA....missing in action that is all I can say for myself about how I have let our blog slide this week. We have been soooo busy right before Easter was wild we had lots of folks in bringing their families that were visiting in and doing final basket plans and decorating for the Easter dinner table, then of course we were closed Easter Sunday..and enjoyed every minute of it!! I hope you did too, having small children around really makes the holidays more fun for sure. Miss Peyton loved meeting her new cousin again and her favorite thing at our house was blowing bubbles and then she got to go to her "DD's" house and hunt Easter eggs!! ooo to have the energy for all of that!!

Monday morning Susan and I hit the floor running getting out all of the new merchandise we had stashed in the back and redoing everything. It is a lot of work but we love to do it, the shop is cleaned and completely moved around with new displays and lots of new summer merchandise out..you will just have to come and see for yourself but here is a sneak peek at some. I have put some new pictures on the website too and am working on updating the photo show so please be patient with me....let me know what you think!!

We had a winner in our guess the number of eggs in the
glass jar...and that will be announced as soon as we contact
HIM ( that's right!! a husband won the $50 gift certificate)
he guessed the right number within 11!! For those of you that are curious there were 637 total eggs and they have now been put to good use in Susan's grand babies Easter baskets!!

This week we have all of the remaining Easter merchandise on Sale if you are needing to fill in...we still have bunnies and some eggs left and after this week they will be put back into hiding for next year so don't wait too long.....
